Während die Entdeckung Neptuns aufgrund von Berechnungen als Triumpf der Newtonschen Physik gilt, musste 1930 bei der Auffindung Plutos durch Tombaugh der Zufall mithelfen. Der Winzling wurde 2006 zum Zwergplaneten abgestuft, nachdem weitere Plutoiden entdeckt wurden.

Unlike the discovery of Neptune, which is considered a triumph of Newtonian mechanics, Pluto was at least partly found thanks to patience, but also due to good luck. In 1930 Tombaugh tracked down this object smaller than our moon, now classified as a dwarf planet and an object of the Kuiper belt. Further such plutoides have been found since 2002.
